George Otieno is a PhD degree holder in meteorology from department of meteorology, University of Nairobi, Kenya. He has over 8 years’ experience in climate modelling using both regional climate models (RCMs) and global climate models (GCMs). His PhD research focused on improvement of regional climate model physics (WRF) for extreme rainfall forecasting within East Africa region. George has been involved in various projects including Towards Forecast Based Preparedness Action(ForPAc) and Greater Horn of Africa under Regional Development Objectives Grant Agreement(RDOAG) that focused on improvement of early warning systems and climate services based on ‘careful model’ selection within Eastern Africa.

George also has over 8 years’ experience in training and capacity Development in weather and forecasting; climate change amongst others to 11 ICPAC Member countries for past 8 years He had experience/expertise will be useful to the DOWN2EARTH project by providing downscaled climate information services to sectors at rural communities as well as supporting capacity development of local government and NGO agencies and knowledge transfer on risks to rural communities to support resilience building with local communities.
